Artificial intelligence is an excellent tool, but its efficiency depends entirely on the quality and scope of the data input.

Chief Data Officer Marjo Viinikka leads Aktia’s work with data and artificial intelligence. Her task is to ensure that data and AI support all business activities of the company.

At Aktia, data and AI are grouped under one team, which cooperates closely with all units in the organisation. The aim is to continuously improve the management and quality of data and, consequently, utilise artificial intelligence at Aktia.

“Data is the basis for AI. Artificial intelligence is an excellent tool, but its efficiency depends entirely on the quality and scope of the data input,” says Marjo Viinikka.

Developing Aktia and her own knowledge

Marjo began her work at Aktia as Data & Analytics Lead in May 2023. At that time, she was responsible for the analytics and data at Aktia as well as the management and development of the team working in this field.

Marjo already had extensive experience in the development of data usage as well as integration and cloud computing. In the autumn of 2024, she was appointed Chief Data Officer at Aktia, which expanded her role even more strongly to the development and utilisation of AI.

Marjo finds her work very interesting. She is particularly pleased for the opportunity to continually develop Aktia and her own knowledge.

“Data and AI offer huge opportunities to improve decision-making, operational efficiency, and the customer experience. It is great to be involved in creating solutions that already at this point, and even more so in the future, drive business success.”

The sense of community supports job satisfaction

Marjo also appreciates the low hierarchies at Aktia as well as working together with others.

“It is easy to take responsibility and express one's own ideas. My colleagues all over the house are very nice, and we have a strong commitment to working together. Everyone helps each other, which makes the work smooth and rewarding,” she says.

Data is related to everything, so the role of data expert gives you a very broad understanding of what is going on at the company. At the same time, integrating data into the organisation's daily operations requires not only the technology but also a cultural change.

“Data involves everyone working at the company and must be rooted in our daily work. That is the only way to keep up with our ever-changing world,” she says.
