Aktia supports young people's opportunities for sailing

Young people are one of Aktia's main themes when it comes to sponsorships. This year, the sponsorship money for youth hobbies goes to Nyländska Jaktklubben, NJK, the largest sailing club in Finland, founded in 1861. In cooperation with Aktia, the sailing club can fulfil its long-term dream of a windsurfing group and also acquire sailboards for the club.

“Having our own sailboards makes it possible for NJK to provide young people with the opportunity to try out the sport without any major advance investments. Sailing has increased in popularity over the past few years and the sailing club has many new young members. We want to be a pioneer in junior activities and we have worked hard to make more young people try out and get excited about sailing. We are procuring a type of sailboard model that will be used for Olympic level competing in the future. Two former Finnish champions have already registered and want to participate in the group's activities,” says Johan Lindberg, the first Vice Commodore of NJK.

In addition to hobbies for young people, Aktia wants to support the cultural heritage and a sport that unites family members of different ages and is close to the hearts of many Aktia employees.

“Aktia’s ideology is to think further – we want to create wealth and well-being from one generation to the next. NJK also teaches their members to take the prevailing conditions into account, but instead of the economy, they are talking about Finland's challenging coastal waters. In addition, the sea, which is a key element when it comes to sailing, teaches us to appreciate nature and to take care of it – another important theme in Aktia’s sponsorship activities,” says Anna Holtari, Head of Brand and Customer Touchpoints at Aktia.

All Aktia's sponsorship and charity activities are guided by the group's sponsorship and charity policy from 2019. The policy has been approved by the Group's Executive Committee. In this policy, three main themes have been selected for the sponsorship and charity activities: young people and the development of economic skills, themes that support climate change mitigation and environmental protection in the spirit of the CDP (the former Carbon Disclosure Project) and our Climate Action 100+ commitments as well as support of diversity and economic stability. Aktia reviews the sponsorship and charity themes every two years and harmonises the sponsorship and charity activities accordingly.
