Mikael Terho appointed as Aktia's new Head of Funding
Mikael Terho M.Sc. (Econ.) has started as Head of Funding at Aktia today, 18 May 2026. In his role, he is responsible for Aktia’s long-term funding and relations with debt investors and financing partners.
Funding plays a key role in Aktia’s operations, as more than half of the bank’s funding is market-based. The bank’s active presence in the fixed income and debt capital markets and its long-standing relationships with investors and financial partners are an important part of its business and competitiveness. Aktia is an active issuer, with a diversified funding base consisting of, among other things, covered bonds as well as senior preferred and senior non-preferred instruments.
Mikael Terho joins Aktia from Danske Bank, where he has been responsible for corporate bond origination for Finnish companies. He has extensive, long-term experience from capital markets, and has held sales, trading, advisory and leadership roles in both Danske Bank and Nordea.
”Aktia is a well-known and respected player in the market. It is great to become part of the team and to continue the long-term cooperation with investors and partners,” says Mikael Terho.
”Mikael brings strong expertise and experience from the markets. Funding is a strategically important area for Aktia, and we aim to remain an active and reliable participant in the European financial markets. I would like to warmly welcome Mikael to Aktia,” says Karri Varis, Group Treasurer at Aktia.
Mikael Terho succeeds Timo Ruotsalainen, who has played a key role in building Aktia’s funding and debt investor relations into their current form. During the transition period, Ruotsalainen will continue in the role of Senior Advisor before retiring at the end of the year.
